Children
We treat the children of our Registered Patients
If you’re looking for a children’s dentist, we treat children of our registered patients at Dentistry on the Grove. We encourage you to start early in promoting a good oral health routine with your children in the home. We suggest taking your children to visit us in the premises and perhaps attend your checkup so they become familiar with the dental environment before they have their first checkup. Visiting the dentist should not be something to fear for children, unlike the old days!
Checkups for children under 7 years old are provided free of charge. Checkups for children 7-17 are £25.
Preventative Treatments for Children
Our whole practice ethos at Shelley Manor Dental is focussed on prevention and your children’s dentist might recommend the following treatments for your children.
Fissure sealants – sealing the grooves in your children’s teeth to prevent food getting trapped and causing decay
Fluoride treatment – painting flouride gel on children’s teeth makes them more resistant to decay

Why it’s important for your children to visit the dentist regularly
- It gets your children into a routine of caring for their teeth from an early age
- It makes dental visits a normal part of life from a young age, reducing the likelihood of dental anxiety later in life
- Regular dental checkups help prevent the early onset of tooth decay, causing much greater problems further down the line
- Seeing a dentist at a young age can prevent dental fluorosis, a common condition caused by over exposure to fluoride in young children (for example, when children swallow toothpaste). Permanent tooth staining is the main consequence.
Keeping children’s teeth clean and healthy can be challenging!
Brushing little teeth can be a challenge for most parents. However it’s worth the effort. Establishing good brushing habits early on is the best way to make sure your child’s teeth stay strong, healthy and last a lifetime. We’re here to help, offer advice and to make your task easier – and hopefully to keep your children smiling!
It can also be challenging to find a dentist your children like. Understandably small children can be apprehensive and they may find the whole experience daunting. Don’t worry, our friendly team here at Shelley Manor Dental understand this, and we do our best to take the stress out of it. We try to ensure that your child’s visit to the dentist is a positive, enjoyable and educational one.
