Nervous Dental Patients

Feeling nervous?

We re used to dealing with nervous dental patients and even patients who consider themselves ‘dental phobic’. This is fairly common and many people feel nervous and anxious about going to the dentist. Avoiding your dental appointments can however be very detrimental to your long term oral health. So please, let us know if you are feeling nervous.
We strive to make every patient feel welcome and relaxed. We offer long appointment times, discuss your treatment options in detail in advance and proceed with your treatment at a pace that is comfortable for you.

New technology helping nervous patients

Digital dentistry is helping patients to feel more comfortable in the dental chair, removing some of the more invasive aspects of receiving treatment. We have 3D digital scanners available for taking impressions (no more putty!) and for taking x-rays which are more comfortable for the patient. We also have the new Airflow technology for your hygiene visit, a non invasive gentle way to remove staining and thoroughly clean your teeth and gums.

For more information on our scanners click on the following links.

Digital 3d x-ray scanner: no more x-ray sensors in your mouth

Oral scanner for taking impressions: no more biting into ‘putty’

IV Sedation

If you feel your anxiety is particularly strong, we can offer IV sedation. We work with 3H, the Dental Sedation Specialists.
We can also recommend a programme of CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) to help you with your dental phobia, before you commence your dental treatment with us. After your CBT sessions, a first step is to come in person and to see the surgery and say hello to your dental team before we even book your initial appointment. We have had much success with this approach and have been able to help many dental phobic patients.

Call us on 01202 443882 for further information or to make an appointment.

I was nervous…

“When my dentist retired 1 year ago I found it difficult to find another.  I was nervous about having any treatment. I was drawn to the practice website, and I am so pleased I was. I am now treated by Tim who is an exceptionally nice person and first class dentist and my nerves have gone!!

I am so happy to have found him and would highly recommend him and the practice.”
